“What’s the difference between Assisted Living and Memory Care?”

Short answer: Assisted Living is mostly about the physical needs, and Memory Care is mostly about the mental / cognitive needs.

In most cases, if your loved one is not:

  • a flight risk (always wanting to leave, go home, or find their car)

  • harmful to themselves or someone else

  • experiencing strong sundowning (late-day confusion, anxiety, agitation, or restlessness)

  • roaming and getting lost

then many communities will allow your loved one to stay in Assisted Living.

Remember: No one is moved to Memory Care without first talking with the family. You are part of that decision, and you deserve clear explanations and time to ask questions.
